Defender is a free program from Microsoft.
What I do is run both of my anti spy ware programs(Defender & Spy Bot) every 3 days or so as we have more then 3 computers. If you only have one then once a week should be fine.
Here's a free anti virus program called AVG Free. Its good but slow
The best anti virus program is Not 32 from Eset. Its has not missed any viruses since 1998. Also Norton & Macafee tent to be bloated & realy to large. They slow your system down by as much as 25% where as Nod 32 is light wait & updates on its on. You will hardly know its there. Although its not free... at $40 bucks a year how can you go wrong.
